I have been working at ALDI full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

The company starts its cashiers off at around $10.80 per hour - which is unheard of for the grocery industry! The store managers never ask the cashiers or assistant managers to do anything THEY wouldn't do. The workload is pretty evenly distributed. If you don't get a raise, you at least get a bonus check that is based on the number of hours you've worked that year. A weeks worth of vacation after only 90 days of employment Outstanding health insurance

Cons

Stressful because of the lack of manpower. Very few chances for advancement due to the lack of expansion. Don't allow managers to have ANY restrictions in their schedule (cannot attend school) High turn-over of district managers, therefore you never really get to show your enthusiasm or skill to the same person for more than 8 months. Lots of pressure to meet productivity Only 2-3 people working in the store at the same time, so lots of things need to be done with little help Refuse to fire people who need to be fired My supervisor has a MASTERS degree, yet he cannot obtain a DM position because they refuse to promote from within. He works 50-70 hours per week.

Advice to Management

Allow your full-time employees to attend school. Having an employee who wants to further their education is an ASSET, not a nuisance. Your district managers should have a contract with their stores that is at LEAST 3 years. It is disheartening to the employees who want to advance to see a DM leave and have to start fresh with a new one in such a short amount of time. This KILLS the morale at many locations. Give the people who work in the store an opportunity to advance.

I worked at ALDI full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Fantastic pay for the industry... Phenominal benefits, especially for singles. * and You never need a gym membership.

    Cons

You'll never see more than 3 employees in the store at a time (except shift change). The work load is INCREDIBLY demanding... No way to use ladders for most of your work [hazardous]. No flexibility in schedule for family or to further education, therefore, you can never become a DM (position requires batchelor's degree)

    Advice to Management

In an economy like today's, a company such as Aldi is thriving... It is unrealistic to expect 3 or 4 people to accomplish what the demands of today's customers are. HIRE MORE EMPLOYEES. Axe the ones that cannot pull their weight.
