I have been working at ALM full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Benefits start Day 1. Tuition reimbursement.

    Cons

The worse team of managers at all levels, I have ever seen in any company, ever. Incompetence, no people skills, extremely hierarchal and controlling. Absolutely no training in place, no growth opportunities, horrible employee morale. Run as far away from this company as your legs will carry you. The reality is far from the picture painted during interviewing/hiring process.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be accepting of suggestions/input from people on the front lines. Listen and solicit employee opinions. Make changes. Encourage honest, open communication, don't bury issues. Promote from within. Make it fun to work there, not like a sweatshop. Your middle managers are bringing you down. Look very closely. You can't still live off past reputation and success. It is a staid, old company that needs to get with the 21st century. Huge training deficiency for employees. Stop micromanaging. Treat customers better. Employees just don't care and it shows.

    I worked at ALM

    Pros

    OK Pay
    Good work/life balance
Brand names somewhat recognizable in the space
Several changes for the good including going digital first
    Pretty good benefits
As a sales professional some good prospects out there
Ability to make some solid money for awhile

    Cons

The company cannibalizes its own products
Editorial team should get with it more
Rely too much on the brand name, thus charging more meaning competition wins a lot when it comes to some of the brand names
Still a silo'ed company despite the integration
Compensation plans don't come until halfway through the year, so you never know your number until it is too late.
    Horrible database
Many digital launches are horribly executed
    Leadership of marketing horrible
Not sure what a lot of the senior management team does

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Much has changed, but still needs changing. Sales people should have their sales goals and plans by the end of Q1 LATEST, not halfway through the year. Pay could be a bit better as well. Also when it comes to the products a lot of changes need to happen. If moving towards data and information, the database should be the number one priority. It is really the company's bread and butter. Relying on the ALM name is no longer good enough for many clients. There is a lot of competition out there with lower pricing and they may have a far superior product. ALM has undergone a lot of changes for the good, but a lot to be desired, including a digital team that can actually launch a quality product and marketing leadership that can actually get the word out. The company has a lot of potential and needs leadership that can take it to the next level

    No opinion of CEO
