I worked at ALM full-time for more than a year

Pros

9-5 work day, decent location in NYC (financial district), it's likely some of your coworkers will be cool

Cons

Upper management is shady--a total boy's club and a lot of sexism going on.
They don't care at all about employee satisfaction.
HR is not trustworthy--on management team's side and nobody else.
Company is spiraling downhill and aren't going to catch up in the digital age.
No room to grow in your career, or even express thoughtful ideas that will be heard.
Terrible benefits.
Extremely high turnover rates.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start listening to employees who aren't on the management team. You have been lucky to have some talent come through there--it's likely you lost them due to horrible culture and leadership.

    I worked at ALM full-time

    Pros

People are genuinely nice, good work life balance, brands are solid and have a lot of respect in the marketplace.

    Cons

No one knows the parent company so one is always explaining what ALM is, lots of new senior management, including a new CEO. Company is clearly getting ready for a sale so cutting costs whenever and wherever possible.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat employees with respect and you will get much more out of them.

I worked at ALM full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    Some really smart, hard-working people

    Cons

Those same people that would succeed in almost any environment are doomed to failure in a company that simply does not fit into a changing industry. The stress created from trying to solve an unsolvable problem is exacerbated by senior management infighting and a general sense of doom.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Admit the inevitable and focus on the areas of the company that are sustainable in at least the short term. Stop pitting middle management against each other to create new revenue streams that will never exist. Cuts should be made strategically in one fell swoop, the constant small downsizing moves wear on the remaining employees.
