I worked at ALM full-time for more than 3 years

Pros

A handful of people. Culture is friendly but everyone knows it sucks.

Cons

Salary and management. Oh, and salary.

Useless company; bought and sold every other year, for sale again.

I have been working at ALM

    Pros

Good digital strategy, ALM is known in legal sector. Real estate group hangs on to keep the dream alive.

    Cons

If you enjoy working for a company that is bought- and-sold every other year, and want to live your life and career as a meager "tool," for a PE fund, then work for ALM. If there's money to be made at ALM, the employees are certainly not making it. It's legal pubs maintain respect despite the turmoil. It bought Real Estate Media, and that organization, once widely respected, has so badly managed relationships with former owners and employees, notably its divorce with former owner Schein, it continues to be the source of gossip among clients. The legal pubs have a reputation for mediocre content at best, but the effective branding of ALM and overall digital/online strategy keep the ship afloat.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The mood and morale of a company starts at the top and trickles down. REM is dysfunctional, let it dissolve.

A downward spiral of petulance, retribution, false (anonymous) complaints, secrecy, pitiful lack of management skills

I have been working at ALM full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Good vacation pay; efficient payroll staff; fairly responsive tech department

    Cons

Poor work spaces, noisy working conditions, lack of management direction or guidance, secrecy, dreadful yearly online self-evaluation process, management ignorance of content/quality of work produced, favoritism toward employees who openly bolster management esteem, sexism at all levels of employment with women's salaries and positions stuck at low levels to justify the job titles and inflated salaries of the new hires of overpaid men, massive layoffs with no advance notice to a huge percentage of employees, resulting enormous increases in workloads for remaining employees but without any overtime payment

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Talk to your employees one on one; learn their strengths and weaknesses; give them a chance to be creative; share company plans with them; stop retaliating against employees who question the antiquated methods and grossly unfair treatment of most employees
