Former Employee - Guest Services/Box Office  in  New York, NY
Former Employee - Guest Services/Box Office in New York, NY

Pros

Free movies (as long as its not opening weekend or sold out)
Its a good part-time job not a full-time
If you want money, you never have to worry about hours, especially if they see you're a reliable worker
You meet celebrities, they love the movies
If you have nice co-workers, you'll be fine

Cons

To get a promotion you have to suck up to all the supervisors and managers.
Minimum wage: 7.25, sometimes its not worth it will the labor you do
You have to make you own to make it though the day and we did. It was the only thing that made it enjoyable.
Upselling and suggestive selling...it's a little difficult to sell bigger popcorn or larger drinks when the majority of the people who go to your theatre are skinny Caucasians who are always on a diet.
You have to make sure the supervisors and managers like you, and the only way to make sure of that is making conversation and joking with them.
There's some favoritism amongst some managers.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

You need to raise the wages even if is $.50 and a $.15 raise every six months is not a lot for the stuff we have to do and the long hours. Supervisors are a lot cooler with the film crew than the GM. I feel the GM should be nicer to the film crew, because just because the economy is bad doesn't mean we need you more than you need us.
Also there are some managers that shouldn't do the hiring, cause the ones who do hire people that get fired or are the laziest. The CEO is really cool, its the GM and mangers who a little of the wagon.

    Pros

You get a paycheck, free movies, and half price food when you work - that's about it.

    Cons

Health insurance is terrible, opportunities for advancement is based on who you know, you have to work every premiere of a big movie, you have to work all major holidays, your hard work isn't noticed and doesn't count towards advancing your career, other co-workers slack off making your job harder, at the location I work the servers only take orders and drop off checks, the Bussers run the food adn beverages to guests and the servers get the tips. I might also add that AMC Theatres is thinking about selling out to a company in China so this company is getting ready to go downhill in terms of growth.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You shouldn't promote people because of who they know, you should really pay attention to those who are serious about their job and work hard - these are the people you should be promoting.
