Pros

1. New leadership is very motivational and execution driven.
2. Potential to do well in business. Opportunity to grow with the potential.
3. Cool technology ; Planned execution ; Good pace (not too fast) of work - enough to pay attention to detail

Cons

1. team-work is a bit lacking. Hopefully the energy from leadership team trickles down.

I worked at AMD full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

get to work in a cutting edge area.

    Cons

Retention/job security is a real issue at AMD. Talented engineers are driven away by long work hours, ineffective performance pay (which even if you peform well you won't get paid), and management doesn't set appropriate goals. Innovation is only a buzz word and NOT a real practice. Instead of innovating, engineers are forced to use off the shelf solutions and provide service support instead of doing REAL engineering. AMD is loosing serious talent.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Innovation should be a real policy and not a buzz word. Taking talented people and reducing them to service industry support engineers will hurt the company.

I worked at AMD full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Can survive without doing anything. A very good retirement job.

    Cons

Absolutely no knowledge in ppl in Bangalore. Heard similar things about the ppl in Hyderabad and felt similar about the ppl in Austin I worked with. People are more interested in saving their asses and keeping their bosses happy than actually doing something useful. Saw many leasons-learnt slides having same content over multiple years.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of all Staff engineers and higher Engineers. They are stuck in the 90s and not willing to let anyone come out of the mould. Most people have no idea why they are doing what they are doing. Pretty sure things can be atleast 10x more efficient if management is willing to take a little risk. Rory does seem to be taking some good decisions, but pretty sure that most will never get implemented in correct spirit due to the middle management/higher engineering not supporting him.
