The company basically ended the day Meyer left..

I worked at AMD full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

-Still some very cool technology despite the low morale and sub-optimal methodologies in place.
    -Very smart engineers.
-Can still compete with Intel despite the situation that the company is in.

    Cons

-Mercenary executives with basically no work history at AMD or no emotional ties to the company.
-Horrible stack ranking & review process.
    -No bonuses.
    -No technical training.
-No stability. Multiple rounds of layoffs every year. Don't keep too many personal items in your cubicle, limit them to what you can pack in a "standard AMD layoff box", approx. 25x20x16 in. You will thank me if they eventually come for you.
-More than half of the engineers are of Indian or Chinese origin (myself included), but literally NONE of the technical management is. Draw your own judgement. If you're a foreign-born engineer, don't expect career advancement here.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

During the last two years, I never got the sense that Rory Read had what it takes to save this company. He never made an effort to explain what the company's strategy was, and he seemed to rely on consulting companies for everything.
There are just incredible layers of middle management and useless VPs. Get rid of them.
