Pros

Very professional environment. Wide variety of complex and simple projects. Very knowledgeable staff...An expert for most problems. Decent Compensation. Flexibility in schedule allowed for personal appointments. Willingness to be involved in the community.

Cons

It's competitive consulting...budget usually runs out before project is completed at least on paper. Staff is left to finish project without billing time or being creative with billing time which usually results in imaginative explanations for variances. During downturn (2008-2010) senior management very slow to cut non-producers and to identify new business lines. Lots of opportunity to cross-market services and skills internally to up-scope projects. Most engineering types are territorial and do not think about marketing and scope expansion for fear of relinquishing project control.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stay lean. Keep overhead low to stay competitive. Require PM's and principals to step out of their comfort zone and look for new business lines.

    Pros

Nice benefits, didn't get to enjoy them for long though.

    Cons

It's a corporation and like most corporations they're concerned ith the bottom line. Company I worked for was bought out and about 2 weeks later they started trimming down the work force.
