Pros

Great co-workers, encouraging learning environment, great benefits

Cons

The only con was that interns didn't get benefits, but then again interns don't receive health benefits anywhere else! AOL pays their interns, very well too, while many companies don't pay their interns at all

    Pros

    I've worked at a number of places and none have compared to AOL and I know my co-workers feel the same. Here are some of the great reasons to come and stay here:
    The intangibles:
    -Smart, Approachable co-workers
    -You aren't competing with your co-workers, you're encouraging them: very team oriented
    -Family-like professional environment
    -Excellent hands-on internship program
    -No micro-management: lots of room to
    -lots of working cross function teamwork
    -transparent executives: lots of exposure to senior leadership at all levels
    -managers see and actively appreciate contributions
    -unUniversity training program: employees train others by their own skillset and by interest

    The tangible benefits:
    -Amazing benefits plan
    -Competitive Salary
    -Excellent opportunity for internal mobility; great establish mobility program
    -Modern, well kept offices
    -Lots of company events: happy hours, beer cart
    -Nap rooms
    -Gym on campus
    -Best technology for all
    -good bonus structure

    Cons

    -can be a long hiri
    -can be difficult at times for contractors to gain full time employment
    -lack of cohesive company vision (but improving)
    -not many entry level opportunities
    -while sales training is in place; AOL lacks other core training programs (manager)

    Advice to Management

    I think AOL is definitely on the right track and a great place to be and I think most of the advice I want to give are issues that will be figured out in time. They include:
    -Organizational Structure Simplification (it seems some people role up into the wrong departments)
    -Implement manager training--something basic would be helpful
    -HuffPost/AOL relations seek improvement as they seem to stand as two separate teams
    -brand mission and vision needs to be more clear, more prevalent, more passionate and encompass the entire company's initiative: think APPLE
    -make a serious effort for execs to get to know the "little guys" like "office hours" as these people are instrumental to our success (and while that is publicly appreciated I think face time with these people would be amazing)

  2. A rollercoaster ride that was something you don't want to miss - very collaborative team I worked with

    Pros

    * challenging assignments
    * very collaborative teams
    * management very supportive
    * flexible time

    Cons

    * developer-centric
    * opportunities for advancement only go so far

    Advice to Management

    putting your money where you investing is the right move - keep on keeping on
    AOL is like a Phoenix; just when you think it's done, it reinvents itself and starts anew
    Patience
