Used to be a great place to work, now it's a revolving door

Pros

Good 401k, employee stock, and health benefits. Nice new office environment. Many company-sponsored social events. The company seems very stable, growing, and probably isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Growth is mainly through acquisition. Multiple employee stock splits have occurred in recent years, so if you've been with the company for decades, you'll make out well when it comes time to retire. CEO is very approachable, and seems to be doing a good job of seeing the company through what would be difficult economic times. The company also rewards military service by taking those discharged from the military and working with them to find a position within the company, often with a management track (read Con related to this below).

Cons

There was a major shakeup of the IT department when new executive management came onboard. Unsure if the shakeup was the result of this management change, or due to the nervousness of the managers underneath the executive. Executive directives tended to be vague, and rarely ever could be met to satisfaction. The end result is that those working under him the the corporate hierarchy ended up either stressing out, burning out, or were forced into demotion. Departmental churn has significantly increased since. From those I know still working at the company, it's been described as a revolving door.

Although I greatly appreciate the reward that the company offers our military men and women by working to place them within the company, it also harms the morale of your "civilian" staff. Many employees see efforts to place those with military experience in promoted positions as a message of "Non-military need not apply". Therefore, if you're a "civilian", good luck seeing any sort of career advancement. Far too many times I had seen unqualified individuals hired from outside the company while hard-working, loyal, qualified individuals within the company get passed over for promotion.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Most quality, hard-working. professional candidates won't stand for a high-stress environment. This is especially true when compensation and opportunity for advancement remains stagnant throughout a person's tenure at your company. Hard work and loyalty rarely seem to be recognized and rewarded. Expect to continue paying higher HR costs due to churn.

Great Place to Work If You Are A West Point Graduate

    Pros

Solid company with a long history of growth. Good retirement package with their 401k plan and Employee Stock Ownership plan. They will always be around. The ideal employee is one who wants to work 40 hours, keep their head down, get 24 paychecks a year and retire.

    Cons

No career growth for a younger person who wants to move up the ladder. However, if you are a West Point graduate you will get promoted within this company. This fact makes it disheartening to talented employees that are go getters and want to improve themselves and the company. The owner is a West Point grad.
Very cliquish atmosphere. If you are not one of the 'cool kids' you are quickly alienated and ignored.
Also, management makes very knee jerk reatctions which can and have had very bad results.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You are losing and will continue to lose young talented employees due to your West Point and clique atmosphere. You are known as the 'farm team' to other companies.
Take more time to make bigger decisions.
