I have been working at ASSA ABLOY full-time (more than an year)

Pros

They manufacture excellent products and systems.

Cons

There is a competitive situation between consultants in the same geographic territory that is unfair.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Training employees in detail on the products and services would be a good start. Then, setting up territories with uniform expectations would be the next step.

Good company considering it's age, but has room for improvement

I have been working at ASSA ABLOY full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Large company with lots of opportunity for some individuals. Heavy emphasis on consistent short-term profitability. During the recent economic instability, this has served them well in making sure the company stays afloat. Their management training program is limited to a select few, but is very well done for those that qualify.

    Cons

Does provide good opportunities to some people, but others will find themselves deadlocked or out of a job without knowing why. The clear priority is to the shareholders and profitability (as it should be) but there is not enough recognition that development of employees is one critical piece of this. They tend to hire from the outside due to a lack of internal talent, and have not yet developed the internal programs to develop their own.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Balance the short term focus with a longer term emphasis on employee development. This will require investment, and some time of negative or minimal return, but in the long run will be necessary to compete. No one goes to a campus recruiting event expecting to see Assa Abloy there (and they are not). The solid, long-term companies ARE there, and will reap the benefits down the road.
