I worked at AT&T

Pros

AT&T has good salary and benefits. The people I worked with are open, honest, and helpful. I loved telecommuting.

Cons

IT Operations is implementing a 'follow the sun' methodology. That means that at least two-thirds of the American jobs are going abroad (Eastern Europe and India). That means there is no future for two-thirds of the current system administrators and database administrators.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

While management books state that 'follow the sun' is wonderful, what does it do to provide a sense of loyalty to your existing employees from your side? Why should they be loyal? Why should they stay? Additionally, you are having those employees who 'follow the sun' pick trouble tickets out of an automated system. That means that there is already a problem identified. I worked at AT&T

    Pros

The benefits were exceptional. I've never worked for a company with better benefits. The pay was better than most companies.

    Cons

Management was not union, and the conflict between sales (union) and management (non-union) left much to be desired. Promotion was mostly based on seniority, because of the union. Better and more qualified individuals were passed over because of seniority.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Communication with the sales force, allow them to experience life outside of the workplace, instead of expecting them to live in the store.

I have been working at AT&T

    Pros

The benefits are very good for a large company and the pay is decent if you work eneough hours. The technology is always advancing as well.

    Cons

You work a lot of long hours and when you try to advance the company promotes people they are friendly with instead of the people qualified

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promote the people that deserve to be promoted not based on politics
