I worked at AT&T full-time (more than 5 years)

Pros

Great pay, great benefits (for full timers) co-workers are like family

Cons

High turnover rate, managers make or break the working environment, union takes a large chunk of your pay and is rarely there when you need them.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management has been hit and miss, the ones who understand how to motivate have been outstanding. Biggest advice I can give is that special treatment of certain employees is always seen no matter how much it is tried to keep under wraps.

I have been working at AT&T full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great projects with cutting edge technology, if you have the right management chain. This is a huge company, and everything seems to depend on where you roll up. Huge volume of customers, huge number of products. If you like to solve problems, this is a place to be.

    Cons

If you don't like to solve problems, this is not the place to be. Departments fight over 'ownership' of customers, IT systems can range from next gen to 20-30 years old, and many departments refuse to fund 'keeping the lights on' for applications, even critical ones. It is easier to request millions for a new system that does very little than it is to get 50k to fix bugs on an existing system. Not a fun place when you have your hands tied as a product manager with no way to improve your product.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You need to have growth opportunities for your staff if you want to retain them, instead of having one job title for a huge group of folks. Please add in Jr,Sr, and Lead positions to help staff feel like they are progressing. Actually hire FTEs instead of having a 75% contractor to FTE ratio. Don't have a single layer of management above Level 1 and 2 line employees. Please start funding maintainance of your existing systems.

I have been working at AT&T full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Good benefit with competitive vacation time, employee discount, and bonus. Overrall, it provides good supporting and resources for employees at work.

    Cons

Work overload. Finger pointing within the group. Stressful work environment. Not easy to move up.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Upper management seems to cut costs fiercefully to meet earning estimate. It feels like we could use more head count in our group.
