I have been working at AT&T full-time (more than 10 years)

Pros

Company financial performance is decent and stable.
Salary, bonus and benefits are good.
Potential to work in many areas exists because the company is so large

Cons

IT is not valued in the company.
IT is only considered an expense and not a strategic entity. This means most areas are outsourced. Outsource vendors routinely do things to maximum their revenue and the reliance on them has gone past the tipping point where they can do this and hold AT&T hostage.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Use AT&T managers to maintain visibility at vendors while ensuring decisions are in the best interest of AT&T.
Reestablish a mix of employees working with vendors to keep them honest and to provide an alternative when vendors attempt to grossly overcharge. Concentrated reliance on a few vendors has become a bigger risk than unions.

    Pros

nice people to work with in must stores, i worked in warwick(bald hill rd), lincoln, east greenwich, north kingstown, little in the smithfield and the warwick mall. most managers were good and knew what they were doing. most employees weren't sharks except one one individual from lincoln and north kingstown. if you are from the company you'll know who i mean.

    Cons

cut commission in half and doubled the goals

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

make better incentives, don't make impossible goals that makes us hate the job

    Pros

Great pay and excellant co-workers. The company was an excellant place to work when it was Michigan Bell, Ameritech, and SBC. When they merged with AT&T and Ed Whitacre left is exactly when the deterioration of values began. Current CEO Randall L. Stephenson has destroyed a once proud and honorable employer.

    Cons

Extreme stress due to managements pressure to achieve unreasonable expectations- for example requiring sales pitches that blur the ethical line, like high pressure sales techiniques to a 95 year old woman to purchase high speed internet (when she says she has no computer). I was counseled to tell her that "she really NEEDS a pc in todays world and we could go ahead and get her set up!"

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Realize the true value of your employees and customers for that matter!! It seems that you couldn't care less about the image of the company. Get a grip on the lack of ethical values in the treatment of employees and your customers.
