Pros

Great place to work! Great Benefits.

Cons

Lots of rules, some of which can be broken, but unclear which. There is a bit of a glass ceiling - it can be hard to move up. Some department are poorly managed, so they getaway with a lot. Other departments you know your what is expected of you.

Advice to Management

All employees need to be held accountable for the work. If not performing, get someone who will.

    Pros

It is a stable place to work, if you work on the wireless side. Less stable if you work in landline. However, the company is motivated to place wireline employees in wireless so they don't have to pay severance.

    Cons

It is difficult to effect change in the business. The company is run from the top down. The top down mentality has hurt the startup spirit that used to exist.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees in the field. You have smart people who care.

    Pros

You can start in one job, find yourself tired of doing the same thing, and decide to find something else to do. They have an internal database that lists opportunities, and they promote from within before hiring from the outside.

    Cons

Jobs, especially at the lower levels, can carry a lot of stress with them. The unions want to hold on to their members, and the jump from union to non-union is a difficult one at best. If at all possible, get a union job before going management, as the benefits are good for life.

    Advice to Management

Desk jobs are as doable for those a few years older as they are for those younger. Don't rule out interviewing someone due to their age.
