I have been working at AT&T full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

For the level of work, very good salary and benefits (union negotiated, occupational position). As long as you keep your nose clean there seems to be relatively good job security.

Cons

AT&T markets itself to its customers as a cutting edge "outside the box" company but as an employer it seems to have a very old school mindset and rigid work environment. A little history if not known, this company is actually SBC Communications, they actually bought the old AT&T a few years ago and adopted their name. Every long-term employee I've spoken with said AT&T prior to the SBC acquisition was a way more flexible company and generous with its employees. Since the acquisition it seems to be a very different mindset. My first, second, and third level managers are all great and have absolutely no complaints against them, but despite this, the company culture at large seems to lack innovation and flexibility especially when it comes to its occupational employees.

Improve flexibility and work/life balance for occupational employees.

    Good pay, great benefits, union representation

    Cons

    Long hours, silly demands, inconsistent expectations, low individual value, unreasonable metrics.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Building a core of employees who are dedicated to the company and provide excellent service would improve your business model and your image. Tearing down employees for their failure to catch your "carrot on a stick" goals may earn you short term sales, but robs you of quality employees.

    Pros

    was a great company to work for when it was Pacific Bell and SBC. They pay well and have great benefits

    Cons

    company is too interested in the bottom line and not customer focused
