Former Employee - Anonymous Employee in Bothell, WA

I worked at AT&T as a contractor for more than 3 years

Pros

Great place to look for a better job while still making good money.
Somewhat flexible hours.
Telecommuting opportunities.

Cons

Impossible to get fired.
Impossible to get hired as an FTE.
Management doesn't want to deal with problems or issue people until other people or departments start to notice them.
Technology is old and outdated. More often than not, quick bandaids will be applied to fix technology issues 'for now'.
Money will be constantly wasted on projects that will go no where or eventually will be scraped.
Long hours, which include working weekends.
Management refuses to pay overtime.
Attrition is high - good talent doesn't stay long once they learn how chaotic the work environment is.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Good talent needs to be hired as an FTE instead of being a multiple year contractor.

I worked at AT&T full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

You can become great friends with co-workers to a point they feel like a second family.

    Cons

Performance solely based on numbers that contradict each other and there are way too many to a point you feel micromanaged. You are expected to meet one metric but you cant meet it without another metric taking a hit and vice versa so its impossible to make all metrics that you are graded on.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to the employees. We are customers too either with your company or with a different company. We know how we would want to be treated if we were on the other end of the phone and the roles were reversed. We are the first line of contact when a customer has a complaint so give the representative the ability to make things right so your representative can salvage what's left of your reputation in that persons eyes at that given moment.

    Pros

    The pay is very good.

    Cons

They are going out of business.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

AT&T's upper management has a level of arrogance that must be seen to be believed. Do the job that your employees do every once in awhile. .
