I worked at AT&T

Pros

Smart people, good core technology, adequate resources. Pretty good benefits.

Cons

Upper management doesn't seem to have a grasp of what is happening at customer level. Resources, promotions and decisions often based on manager to manager relationships and not on sound business reasoning.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promote and resource parts of business that are generating growth and profit. Save your slashing for the loosing part of the business EVEN IF you've known those people and that part of the business forever.

I have been working at AT&T

    Pros

Global powerhouse with opportunities to work in many locations. lots of different kinds of work and the ability to change roles..

    Cons

Extremely old school military command and control environment. middle management hugely undervalued while working extremely hard. Upper management
convinced they are far superior to those below them and thus deserve the extremely disproportionate compensation packages and EXECUTIVE PERQUISITES...cars, car washing, gas allowances, special medical and dental plans, corporate jet travel to the chairman's
Christmas party, grossed up bonuses, compensatory stock when the options go under water etc etc

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat employees with the respect and appreciation that should be accorded to all who are delivering success to the company each and every day. There are so many without whom you could not succeed. Senior management are not demi-gods deserving of rarified treatment compared to the rest of the employee body. Create more equitqble compensation plans.

I have been working at AT&T

    Pros

Its next to impossible to be fired. Allows some work/life freedom at the management level. Does have decent vacation allowances

    Cons

Limited advancement. Promotions and raises based more on time in a position and your political accumen rather then talent. Company exceptional slow and resistant to change. It also has little to no relevant communication from executives to lower level management and technicians.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promote from within based on talent. For the LDP program work on retaining top performers who know the job not just ones who make good contacts.
