I worked at AT&T full-time (more than 10 years)

Pros

If you can get through the BS and to a department that doesn't promote less qualified people-there are still parts that are worth working for.

Cons

At one time Pacific Bell was a great company than got bought by SBC who bought AT&T. Think they lost sight of employees put the hard work into the business.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't be afraid to promote people that will work harder and possibly could do your job. Promoting people who aren't the best makes for a company with many problems.

    I worked at AT&T full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Vision of the officers. New technologies.

    Cons

Lack of career growth. Constant fear of "Right sizing". Very outdated management style. The There is absolutely no oversight of management, so if you are unlucky and have terrible management, nobody above cares or takes action. In the past few months employees have been forced to leave due to harassment from management.
The most important thing is to get work done. Quality or effectiveness of the work is meaningless.
Constant restructuring changes your leadership team faster than they can work a project. Most of your work is rework or tossed in the can because you have someone new move in and they are pressured to make change for the sake of change.
No leadership by example. Don't dare bring up any issues or you are labeled a troublemaker. Somewhat hostile work environment. Lots of threats.
To many layers of upper management. You listen to the officers and their vision and by the time it is "interpreted" by all the levels down to you, you wonder if it is the same company. The company is set up to pit one employee against the other instead of working collaboratively towards the common good of all. Best practices are hidden from one another and everyone tries to make their peers look bad.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Thin out the senior levels of management and keep the ones that believe in open, honest conversations. Change from a threatening workplace to one of team building, valuing employees and their input and get away from the everyone has to fight everyone else in the company for everything.

I worked at AT&T full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Great co workers always willing to help a fellow worker. Knew everything was not set in black and white. Some jobs needed special attention.

    Cons

Was not able to learn my job properly training was not always adequate. Felt the preliminary work was not always done.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Would not want to work for those cut throat managers ever again in any situation or any company. Felt they just worked against me for their own benefit.
