I have been working at AT&T full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The pay and benefits easily feed and care for a family.

    Cons

As an hourly employee you are constantly put into situations where in order to do your job properly you have to sacrifice their most precious commodity which is time. Your every task is researched and you have very specific time requirements placed for tasks that occur in a very dynamic field environment with unlimited obstacles and variables. You feel that in order to meet their expectations you have to lie to your customers and co-workers and even pass off incomplete or poor work as properly done in order to meet objectives and avoid punishment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop rewarding those employees that cheat or work the system to their own advantages by ignoring their shortcuts because they make your spreadsheet look better. Promote from within. You overlook so much talent already in your workforce because it is easier to hire off the street than promote someone in a key position such as a technician. You place far too much emphasis on those "filter questions" on an internal job application for a promotion, where a person never even sees the interested internal candidates.

I have been working at AT&T full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

AT&T (formerly SBC/Ameritech/Indiana Bell) was a great company to work for, with great people who were dedicated to their work. I worked in Indianapolis, and at the time, this was one of the best places to work in Indy.

    Cons

Constant change, sometimes it seemed change for the sake of change. In an market with sales cycles as long as 18 months, sales territories were changed on an annual basis. This was very frustrating. Sometimes the environment was very political, and not in a good way.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more patience and listen to the front line sales people more, they know what is really going on with the customers.
