    Pros

Amazing benefits for insurance and great discounts on services and partners (Apple, etc).

Great 401k options and pension, with a pretty low vesting period.

Learn a ton on old and emerging technologies (from typical work, not from paid-for training).

Easy to respect and be respected by peers.

    Cons

Middle management typically has little knowledge of who, what and how thing actually work and typically only care about the bottom line and protecting themselves from any responsibility. This is par for the course on many companies.

Considerable red tape to get anything done, and too political resulting in a considerable CYA mentality.

Once a leader in R&D (AT&T Labs in the 60s/70s), now a completely reactionary company that provides less and less innovation in order to protect core assets.

Time considerably wasted on needless corporate training and absolutely no budget given to relevant training.

    Advice to Management

Learn more about what your employees do for you. Become a partner with them, protect them, and respect them. They are your bread and butter and you would be out of a job without them. Be approachable and understanding.
