Pros

There are growth opportunities for you as an individual to expand your technical experience and education. Along with that there are advancement opportunities to move up the corporate ladder. They offer great benefits, including a pension, and the salary for a manager is very good.

Cons

The growth opportunities are frequently not where you are, so growth today will require your moving in most cases.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do not take a position and feel this is "it". Continue to look at the educational opportunities that are being offered and take advantage of them. The is a very rapidly changing work environment new positions today will not exist it ten years. It is your job to keep alert to the changes and constantly prepare yourself for the next position.

I have been working at AT&T full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Money is good. My immediate managers and coworkers are great to work with. Good vacation/paid time off. Union backed. Can't get fired because a manager simply doesn't like you.

    Cons

Retail hours. The ability to move up locally just doesn't happen since everyone stays put. If you want to move up you'll need to move. To many different ways to get on a write up. There are so many different goals from sales quotas, customer satisfication, to signing up for ISIS & making sure customers sign into myatt on their smartphone. The goals change constantly. Companies focus goes from one thing to the next to the next on what seems a monthly basis.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Scale back on the number of goals for Retail Sales Consultants. I shouldn't have to worry about hitting 20 different targets every month.

    Pros

If you have the drive and ambition to succeed, then AT&T provides you with the rest.

    Cons

Long hours, Mid Shifts that cut into day and evening hours and work on weekends

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try to align the pay scale better between Sales Reps and Management. If you are very successful at sales, you will most definitely have to take a pay cut as an assistant manager.
