I worked at AT&T as a contractor (more than an year)

Pros

Relative simple job, most of it is repetitive work for the same customers. The company's computer applications are antiquated (MS DOS based)

Cons

Work environment is less than desirable company and does not have basic necessities to do work, office supplies are hard to come by.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire your contractors as full-time workers. Many of them have proven themselves more worthy that your own employees.

    Pros

Great pay!!! Great commission structure(if they do actually pay you proper commission)

    Cons

AT&T has a terrible attendance policy. You could come to work bleeding from a horrible car accident and need to go to the ER and they would dock you for missing work. There is never "available time" to take off if you wake up feeling sick/have the flu/are dying. After a year if you can find something chronically wrong with yourself then you can get FMLA hours from your doctor and then take time off and not get in trouble. If you want a vacation make sure you schedule a year in advance. Great job if you like to have 4 managers breathing down your neck all day and telling you to do better even if you're one of the top representatives but don't tell you what to do. It's never enough for them. You can easily have your hard earned sales stolen. Also they can find a way to loophole you out of commissions so keep a good record of what you sold.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Quit having so many metrics and unnecessary workload for management so they aren't so stressed. Make your employees feel more appreciated. Management isn't on the phone all day taking the calls from angry people and getting cursed at and they forget what it's like being a representative very quickly. We don't need the customers and the managers at the same time making you feel like crap. Lose the unnecessary scripting at the beginning and end of the calls it just irritates customers(now being a customer it's irritating hearing the same thing every time I call and it makes me feel like the interaction is less personal and the reps are forced to say things that sound ridiculous)

    I worked at AT&T full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

If you are sharp, willing to work hard, and know how to network you can go great places with the company.

    Cons

I worked for National Retail for 3 years, it was a great experience for the most part. I was promoted to an Assistant Manager position at the corporate locations and the experience was horrific. There is no support from upper manager, they just want you to hit your targets and could careless about any other issues.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Get a back bone.
