Former Employee - Senior Technical Team Lead in San Ramon, CA

I worked at AT&T

Pros

Flexible work environment. Able to telecommute or flex hours when requested. Provided with proper work tools and comfortable working environment. San Ramon facility has (had) a nice cafeteria. Middle management VPs encouraged employees to be making themselves fireproof or at least technosavvy so they would land well if they lost their jobs.

Cons

Out sourced a lot of IT to IBM, which in turn, off shored to other countries. End result was a lot of AT&T employees out of work. San Ramon facilith was due for refurbish. Training was encouraged, but not a lot to be found.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Offer more training in the salaried IT area and make the process for taking advantage of the training more visible.

I have been working at AT&T

    Pros

there are great opportunities to move around within the company, excellent salary and benefits. AT&T fosters an innovative environment - "rethink possible".

    Cons

Pressure to work long hours, tight deadlines. Coworkers are geographically dispersed, which for some, might take some getting used to - but conferencing and collaboration tools are great.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep up the great working transforming the business to operate as "One AT&T" because it seems to be working well.

Former Employee - Mobile Applications Consultant in Vienna, VA

    I worked at AT&T

    Pros

Brand recognition provides opportunities to have significant face time with current or potential customers, Large portfolio of devices ensures sales force has many options to complete the deal.

    Cons

Consistent travel is expected daily. Attendance of a number of mind numbing conference calls while driving is expected. Endless on-line reports means family time is not attainable.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Middle management and a number at the Director level are nothing more than mailboxes. Information comes in , information goes out. Staff already know this information, but it makes the Director levels feel they have shared important data. Toxic management is rampant; no interest in the employee or the customers, just the achievement of revenue numbers. Creativity is stifled as is acceptance of any suggestions regarding sales methodology and bundling of deals.
