Pros

You work with AT&T, which will use the latest technology available.
There is a lot of professional people that you can exchange knowledge with.
Resources for testing equipment are good.

Cons

Being a contractor limit people for balancing professional and personal life.
You don't get the stability that AT&T offers to the full time employees.
Salary is below the average in the market for fully qualified professionals.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Due to the stability that AT&T offers, most of the management will care to comply only with their job. Those who do more than their share are the great people in the company, however those are the minority of people.

Top Managers disconnected, unrealistic budgets, metric overboard; but the management pay and benefits are OK.

I have been working at AT&T

    Pros

    1) Large organization
    2) Turnover in the sales and field force leads to many entry level positions
    3) Benefit for salary and non-salary workers are very good
    4) IF you just want a job, AT&T may keep you employed for a good period of time until the department dissolves.

    Cons

    1) Top down management style with no regards to the field force or 1st level manager capacity
    2) years of layoffs create low moral and fear
    3) Upper managers have their own idea of what work is needed and do not ask the lower level workers for planning or feedback
    4) Too much MBA theories and not enough practical decision making
    5) Performance metrics that are not correctly applied with measurements that are tabulated not based on the worker's own direct performance.
    6) Unrealistic budget reductions in all departments and not enough investment to "growing" the business
    7) Not a working environment that will allow workers to develop new procedures or challenge the existing top down corporate directives.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Upper managers need to come out from their own clouds and have a direct conversation and understanding of the problems running the business from the ground. Face reality and not decide policies from the top down. Understand that many employees are force to meet job performance metrics that are unrealistic; so data is fabricated just to meet what is "expected" . Upper Texas managers are too centralized in their management style. They do not allow the regions to have the flexibility to adapt and innovate for their own areas. Rather they have a cookie cutter approach and HQ makes all the micromanagement decisions. Lip service is given to mid-level and lower level managers.

    Pros

The only Pro is the wages and benefits

    Cons

They treat their employees like crap.....no respect....forced overtime....and the union is weak

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Whats the point of offering advice or feedback to management ....they don't care about employees or customers....only $$$. People wouldn't believe how much they're being ripped of on their wireless services...huge profit margins!!! Ever wonder why it seems every other TV or radio commercial or internet ad is for AT&T.....and you pay for that!!!
