I have been working at Abbott Labs

    Pros

Many smart people, well-respected products for hospitals and labs. Interesting jobs working to help people medically with products and services. Some management is good - if you are lucky you get good support.

    Cons

Shrinking US presence, much of production moved overseas and US people just laid off. As mentioned above, quality of management is hit or miss, with more on the miss side.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen more to people directly involved in the work, instead of just accepting what DVPs say. Remember, complaints are data, and very valuable if you listen and respond. Don't fire people who bother to tell you what is wrong, instead listen and make changes.

I have been working at Abbott Labs

    Pros

Good benefits (hope they keep the pension for the older generation)
Some opportunities for promotion if you smooze with the bosses

    Cons

Not a professional workplace, too much gossip, hiding information, etc.
Not clear enough expectations, or they constantly change their minds on the "#1 priority'
Always an "emergency" from your bosses
Not enough recognition for hard work, reward politics and especially if you fit their 'diversity quota'..... there is such a thing such as reverse discrimination..... and yes they do set and have a quota for 'diversity'

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Get back to basics
    Reward hard work
Stop hiding in your offices and talk to us like your colleagues, not like minions
Stop using your personal travel checklist as a reason you need to attend a meeting and waste company resources
