Former Employee - Senior Manufacturer in Worcester, MA
Former Employee - Senior Manufacturer in Worcester, MA

I worked at Abbott Labs full-time (more than 5 years)

Pros

Don't require education to be respected at Abbott and in fact earlier you commence career and remain with Abbott, better off you will be.

Non base pay benefits exceed many provided by other Massachusetts companies.

Cons

Worcester site:
Tolerant of harassment including physical harassment.
High turnover rate for Manufacturing.
Rather than mar PR image, employee bullying prominent to reduce Manufacturing staff.
Reduction of Manufacturing staff and overtime to show management's ability to reduce labor costs has caused a cessation in cross training outside the plant hindering career growth for those desiring to move outside the plant environment.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

May want to take claims of harassment more seriously.

Doesn't Recommend
Positive Outlook
No opinion of CEO

I have been working at Abbott Labs full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great colleagues, good resources, interesting projects. Good mix of biologics and small molecules.

    Cons

Slow and very cautious to develop drug candidates (i.e., many worthy candidates never progress to clinical trials). Management can be parochial, and seems at times not to understand how to truly nurture a worldwide company.

Former Intern - MDP Intern in North Chicago, IL
Former Intern - MDP Intern in North Chicago, IL

I worked at Abbott Labs as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

The work was great; people are really willing to help out and support you. They take really good care of their interns.

    Cons

Too much networking expected. The internship program is great, but with the split, they don't seem sure on what to do with the full time offers. They also need more consistency across internship experiences in different groups.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consistent messaging is needed to interns before, during and after the internship.
