Former Employee - Assistant Store Manager in Glendale, CA

I worked at Abercrombie & Fitch full-time for more than a year

Pros

-PPO Medical and Dental plan
-Stand and be on your feet rather than sitting in front of a computer all day
-Discounts!!

Cons

-Never get two consecutive days off
-Managers and 'models' hiding clothes in the back room, waiting for the item to drop in price
-No promotions and if you finally get one, it's not significant enough to notice a change on your pay check
-Very bad moral, while I was there, every since manager wanted to quit so bad, but couldn't because they couldn't find a job elsewhere
-Too much focus on recruiting, not enough focus on training the people who are actually there
-Bad attitudes. The people who worked here really thought they were better than the customers
-It's like a high school environment. There is usually the mean girl, the gossip, the one who's too scared to speak up for themselves and the rest of us that are in shock that this sort of behavior happens at work!
-Too many clicks. The regional managers hang out with selected store managers. And if you are not in that group, you can kiss promotions good bye!

Advice to ManagementAdvice

I am not sure it's worth writing anything here. A&F will continue to be successful even though their customer service is poor. Unless the whole company culture changes, there is no use giving management advice.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't take you personal feelings out on associates. Don't show favoritism. Be fair with the distribution of hours. You wouldn't have to hire a bunch of people if you gave the ones you already have decent hours.
