Abercrombie & Fitch – “Not the worst retail job”
Pros
Working at A & F is not the worst. Don't get me wrong, the pay is not great... it's actually below average. But at least they work with your availability. I worked there for a year and only once or twice did they schedule me out of my availability and one of those days was Black Friday. If I needed time off I would just put it in the system and they would honor it. The discount was 30% off (i think) but you could not use it on sale items. At the beginning of each season you get 3-4 50% on certain colors. Also, if you close the store you really do not do anything because they have an overnight team and a cleaning crew.
Cons
The pay is below average and they expect you to buy their clothes constantly. Every season they change the colors you can wear so you're constantly having to buy clothes...even if you hate the colors. There was a time when they would make you call in to see if you had to work and you had to call within an hour of the "start" time. This is really annoying because it doesn't allow you to make plans for the day. The managers are constantly pushing the tag line which is ridiculous...most people got annoyed with me saying "Have you tried our great fitting jeans?!" within 3 seconds of them walking in.
Advice to Senior Management
Be realistic. Customers don't want to be harassed. Some even complain to us about it.
