Abercrombie & Fitch – “Hard work does not pay off.”
4 of 4 people found this helpfulPros
The few pros of this job include the discount, wearing jeans every day, and management experience. The company also gives you more than enough tools to effectively, and legally, discriminate based on looks alone.
Cons
This job should only be taken as an absolute last resort. I would recommend cleaning up after animals before recommending this job.
Although you are required to have a four year degree to even apply for this position, the truth is they would hire an idiot if only they were physically attractive. The entire job including personal advancement is based on identifying good looking candidates to work part time. As an assistant manager, you are also placed under a microscope of shallowness for job advancement. There is only a decent chance of moving up if you are what Abercrombie considers to be good looking.
If you take this job, never expect praise. This company preaches positive reinforcement, however it is never employed by upper management. There is plenty between part-timers and their direct supervisors. Upper-management however, perhaps due to stress or maybe out of ego, never direct praise towards anyone but themselves.
The cons go on.....there are too many to list. Take my advice--steer clear of this company.
Advice to Senior Management
Abercrombie and Fitch preaches about a fun, engaging, rewarding environment for their management staff. It does not exist. There is an chasm between the upper management working out of homeoffice and the management in stores. This needs to change. The only way this is going to happen is if the company becomes a bit more realistic with its standards of merchandise and employees.
