I have been working at Aberdeen Group full-time

Pros

Having worked at Aberdeen for several years a laundry list of pros can be written. To keep things short these are the top five pros of working at Aberdeen:
- A no a**hole environment. Great people and not a lot of egos. No one is fighting over leads either
- Great product. Top notch deliverable that drive results
- Smart management. Very intelligent yet open to new ideas
- Flexibility
- Sell to the best and brightest of the B2B tech world. Provides a crash course in new industries
During my time at Aberdeen management has supported my professional growth, been open to new ideas, and forgive me for mistakes. This is truly a great place to work.

Cons

Not many cons but they are important. Aberdeen's parent company can be a bit sluggish in providing resources and tie up management. Right now the team is very new and a lack of managing heads exists. Operational support has lagged in the past but that has changed of late.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue on the current path and good luck hiring good new people.

I worked at Aberdeen Group full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Location and accessibility to public transport.

    Cons

Leadership is lacking, ineffective, inadequate and has lost respect from the employees. Another reviewer noted that a solicitation was sent out to current employees to write good reviews and that is accurate. Good leadership should have to solicit good reviews but earn them by being great managers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Create an environment in which employees are empowered to take charge of their jobs.
You need to achieve an appropriate balance that allows you to lead employees and provide direction without dictating and destroying employee empowerment and employee engagement.
Familiar with the old tenet that people live up to your expectations? You don't necessarily have to treat every employee the same, but they must feel as if they receive equal treatment.
The perception that you have pet employees or that you play favorites will undermine your efforts to manage people.
Take responsibility for what goes wrong in the areas that you manage.
Calling last minute meetings with no regard for their prior commitments, refusing to okay vacation time use that was appropriately requested, and failing to commit needed resources in a timely manner are hallmarks of disrespectful behavior.
Bullies intimidate employees with words, threaten employees and their jobs, and have even been known to have shouting matches within the office space. This is the culture within Aberdeen Group and very disrespectful.

I have been working at Aberdeen Group full-time

    Pros

Great people to work with...this is the biggest benefit
A culture open to change. As with all analyst firms, change is constant. Here, you can take advantage of it. Management will let anyone step up and then reward them.
Great ability to move up if you show the willingness to take risks

    Cons

Still a little muddled in its relationship to Harte-Hanks, but getting better
Still trying to live down the reputation it got from 2004-2007....both internally and externally. Things have only gotten better. Management willing to shut things down that aren't working.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue pushing the change that is needed. Don't avoid the sacred cows.
