I have been working at Academy Sports & Outdoors part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

20% discount on merchandise You get to learn the basics of how a corporation and business runs You learn quite a bit about what your department and the merchandise within it

    Cons

Terrible management (at my particular store) Managers do not show respect to every employee, regardless of whether or not they have done anything against them Little to no opportunities to move up from an hourly position Hourly associates are for the most part, expendable and treated as such The company can be very strict with some policies, and very loose with others. Understaffed issues/constantly working more or longer hours due to a lack of adequate workers Zoning can get very detailed and tedious, sometimes taking hours to complete a single project You may be asked to work late hours (a closing shift) and may end up getting out three hours after you were scheduled, if not later.

    Advice to Management

Ask employees about their department and what has been going on. Stay involved and knowledgeable of what is happening on the sales floor, and treat each employee with respect instead of just a few.

I worked at Academy Sports & Outdoors full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The concept is easy to stand behind and the stores are well known in the area. You will see you product out in the world everyday.

    Cons

Certain departments are run by individuals with dated technical knowledge of specific functions. The environment is not conducive to change or improvement. Lower level management can be bullying.
