I have been working at Academy Sports & Outdoors full-time (More than 8 years)

Pros

20 percent employee discount on most purchases - the work mostly very easy also things change with each season of weather and sports. has fully vested 401k

Cons

very poor pay for most store employees and annual reviews are downright insulting ! managers are instructed to not use the top rating tiers so the best anyone can get in any category is meets expectations. then raises are given that are so small [ under 2 percent - 10 to 15 cents per hour ] that they are lafable. very poor hours even for retail and those are often cut for weeks at a time while additional employees are added to the schedule

Advice to Management

.Look for a place to bail out - KK&R will suck up all the revenue that should have been going to the employees and then dump the company on another holding company to repeat the process until nothing is left and academy is either split up or shut down

I worked at Academy Sports & Outdoors part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The only easy job at academy is being a cashier everything else required way too much work for very little employees. Hours were usually available.

    Cons

Working two jobs is not welcomed. Discount sucks.

    Advice to Management

    Be nice.

  2. Fun environment, but still retail

I worked at Academy Sports & Outdoors part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

It was fun working with other college aged employees while I was still in school. It was a generally laid back atmosphere. Managers willing to work with you on your hours

    Cons

Its retail, so you'll be working the day before and after Thanksgiving and Christmas. Sometimes the work seems tedious.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work. Remember that the sales associates are the backbone of the entire company.
