I have been working at Academy Sports & Outdoors full-time (less than a year)

Pros

Tram to transport employees from the parking lot to the front door. Friendly drivers.

Cons

Highly unstructured organization. Organizational chart changes every day, due to high turnover rates. All parts of the company still operate as if it is 1982. All departments are resistant to change. There is corporate 'talk' of faciliating change, but Business Analysts are left on their own to fight with the Business for current business processes and business requirements. Business Analysts do the work of at least 3 people. Since the company does not follow its own SDLC, the analyst is expect it to perform all parts as well as lead the project. Do not expect Project Management to know anything more about the project than the project name and number. Salary is extremely low for the work you are expected to do. There is no mentorship, no guideline and no one to refer to for true Academy knowledge. Not even a great stamp on your resume. Highly stressful environment. There are only 2 Business Analysts who have been here for more than a year (out of 30).

I have been working at Academy Sports & Outdoors full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

good employee benefits, fun merchandise, employees come together as a family easily.

    Cons

huge disconnect between home office and store level.programs are implemented without thorough testing and evaluation to make sure all components of the store: technology to personnel to how things ring up in a register fail more than they should

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

there should be a program set in place where no one in the home office from human resource to buyers to distribution center employees don't start their positions until they spend time maybe even a minimum of 6 months working in an actual store to see how their decision-making effects the company at the store level.this company is very loose and sloppy with their procedures and follow up. It could make so much more profit if it would shore up some areas and let the store directors run their store and quit being a "big brother" entity.
