    Pros

Discount, clean work environment, hour long breaks

    Cons

I was warned time and time again by my friends not to work at Academy as most already had. In desperate need of a summer job I applied and was accepted days later. What I would find is a menagerie of forty y/o managers whose lives work was being in the management position they were in at Academy. This led to massive disconnects between them and the rest of the associates as they would take it as personal insults if one shirt was out of place. I spent many, many, many nights working one to two hours past schedule (coming home between 1230-2 almost every night) if closing, often being kept by a manager who wanted to personally check all work we had done, even if that meant us standing around doing nothing for thirty minutes. The turnover rate at our store was extremely high with people quitting about every other week. I stuck through till school started again, but I would have rather worked at McDonalds by the end of that summer. To anyone considering this job I would advise you to only go if it is your last option, and stay out of apparel/footwear as they are the worst departments to be in.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Realize that being an associate isn't everyone's dream job, ease up on zoning control, vet managers better, and staff more people.
