I have been working at Academy Sports & Outdoors full-time (more than 5 years)

Pros

Flexable schedule made it easy to attend college. Good vacation policy, after 5 years you get 3 weeks and after 10 you get a full month.

Cons

Company has lost its family owned feel and has become more corporate. This was the main reason for staying this long. The company used to close on major holidays and is now open for Easter.

I have been working at Academy Sports & Outdoors part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

    Usually flexible with hours
    Hours aren't too demanding

    Cons

    Pay isn't great
Rules are strange and overly "team" oriented but still make one department do all the work

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make each department only responsible for their department

I have been working at Academy Sports & Outdoors full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Fun environment, good products and low prices, a lot of freedom to work in different areas of the store, growing knowledge of who they are, ability to grow in the company and move up.

    Cons

No communication, lack of follow up, lack of discipline on the sales associates and manager's parts, little work being done on the manager's part and more on the senior team lead. Lack of effective training- the knowledge is available, but they do not walk you around, explain processes, explain your job description, and blame a lot on STLs regardless. Inventory is hit or miss, and their processes for keeping up with inventory and levels is still very old school. The store is run by lower management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Follow up and enforce in the departments you are responsible for. Try seeing everything from a lower perspective. Also practice what you preach. If you work along side your employees, team leads and seniors, they will respect you even more. Gain more consistency and communication so that there is no confusion with policies, processes, or how to deal with things.
