Former Employee - Management Consulting Analyst in Detroit, MI

I worked at Accenture full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

Exposure to multiple areas of the business, Challenging projects, Community Outreach, 25 Days of Vacation/year, Flexibility to transfer to other locations within the company, Excellent Training

Cons

100% Travel, Pay is low compared to other consulting firms, Terrible HR organization (very metric based, not much "humanity" for a HUMAN resources group), Employees can be "pigeon-holed" very quickly, Pay is based upon starting city and won't be adjusted if you transfer offices (If you start in NYC and move to Detroit, your pay won't be reduced, but if you start in Detroit (where the cost of living is much lower) and move to NYC, you won't be compensated)

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Care about your people, in good times and in bad. If things are going on in their professional or personal lives, recognize that and help your employees overcome their problems - don't judge them for it or let them go. It's easy to have someone's back in good times, but when business is slow, or an employee is going through a rough patch, don't turn your back on them. Reward company loyalty and ask your subordinates what they actually think!

I have been working at Accenture full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Solid compensation structure on par with the peers
    Ok benefits
Expert Career Model, that is amongst the best in the industry
    Good training
    Breadth of opportunities

    Cons

Accenture still has pure consulting/services mindset, management and development culture, which one one hand makes it an incredibly successful at those lines of business but at the same time hampers its ability to do other things like building [software] products
The performance measuring process is closed, subjective, arbitrary and can leave people stuck for many years through little fault of their own

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more differentiated in how you apply processes, people and leadership to different parts of your business - it is big and diverse enough to warrant more targeted approach.
