Former Employee - Senior Account Manager in San Diego, CA

Pros

-Excellent work atmosphere and incredible co-workers
-ActiveX: bootcamp style workouts offered before, during and after work hours to stay healthy and relieve stress
-Lot's of opportunities for growth, re-location and movement from within
-Great industry to be a part of, very fulfilling
-Still very entrepreneurial in spirit (or at least they were when I left)

Cons

-Not on cutting-edge cusp of technology
-Sometimes there is a lack of responsibility for projects, issues, etc.
-Pay wasn't as good as other similar companies

Advice to ManagementAdvice

-Start holding people accountable for their work
-Assign specific leaders/decision makers to tasks rather than generic groups
-Reward people (monetarily) better and more often for their work

Disappointing...Active is still a very adolescent company that is currently overextended and vulnerable.

Former Employee - Product Marketing Manager in San Diego, CA

    Pros

Great attention to personal well-being through exercise, competition and work/social events. A lot of optimism regarding the future "dream" of what active can become which leads to a lot of positive energy.

    Cons

No sense of reality..internal operations are unorganized, leadership is immature, brand is lost, acquisitions are forgotten, product management has no strategy and marketing has no game plan..No real benefits beyond personal wellness, and despite the work-life balance appearance - the average person spends altogether way too much time working on inefficient tasks because middle management is indecisive and inexperienced therefore their priorities tend to get skewed to "busy" work and not executing the business. Way to much time is spent in appearances and group politics and less of getting "creative" and "strategic" work done. Therefore morale and efficiency suffers and experienced and aspiring talent is leaking through the front door.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop talking to the shaman and looking at the crystal ball. Get involved! Groupthink, posturing, bullying and sheer incompetence are killing efficiency and morale..To get to the next level, Active will need to recruit and retain "real" talent that has either been around for more than just one boom/bust cycle or is willing to do what it takes to create the next big thing..Both of these types are walking away due to the immaturity within the culture..
