I have been working at Active Network for more than 5 years

Pros

Working envirnment is good. Equip with good tools(PC, Laptop, big monitors). Collegues are nice and easy to work with. Decent vacation days (max 25 days/year).

Cons

Lack of growth opportunitity. Pay is behind of industry. Work at home is not flexible. No new technology was introduced. Skills may be out of date soon.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Introduce new tech. Pay follow industry or above average. Flexible work at home policy.

    Cons

    Lack of seasoned management teams
    Matrix structure which doesn't foster cross function collaboration
    Lack of strong business processes in Finance, Sales, Marketing
    Compensation not competitive with other "high tech" companies

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Management needs to change the reporting structure of the BUs as a Matrix organization isn't not applicable to such a small organizations (revenue and employees). There is no true accountability at the management level as a result.

    Pros

    -Public offering provided ample funding to attract talent and invest in their people
    -Client base provides ample challenge and professional IT opportunities
    -Very dedicated team members

    Cons

    -Very rarely promote from within.
    -C-Level executives lack integrity, repeatedly lie to employees during "town hall" meetings and surround themselves with yes people who filter, spin and distort the facts in order to protect themselves
    -Due to diverse portfolio of subsidiaries, any solid performance of a single subsidiary distorted after cost-shifting occurs from under performing subsidiaries causing performance incentives to disappear for the employees of the subsidiary who worked hard to meet and exceed their numbers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    -Stop converting your stock options and immediately selling your shares while sharing with the public and your employees of your commitment for the long-term and confidence in the financial stability of the company.
    -Be honest and transparent. Stop lying to employees. Your town hall meetings where you claimed no one was being laid off while at the same time you were letting hundreds of people go in offices around the country labeling the loss of those employees anything other than "laid-off" was very offensive to the collective intelligence of your employees.
    -Come out from behind your wall of "yes" VP's and speak with mid-management and others who are on the front line to assess the true financial condition of the company, status of client contracts and mindset of the employees.
    -Your approach to purchasing companies to form The Active Network by guaranteeing senior management from each of the purchased companies a seat at the new company table might have been a sound strategy to retain key employees and keep knowledge from exiting while executing the acquisitions. However, it is now time to stop the purchased company "nepotism" in senior management positions and open them up. By keeping those who were in charge and in control prior to the acquisition and placing them in the same or even more powerful position in the new company hinders growth, ensures bad practices remain in place, does very little to break down the pre-acquisition multi-company management cliques and KEEPS THE ACTIVE NETWORK FROM FORMING ITS OWN IDENTITY, WORK ENVIRONMENT & BUSINESS CULTURE which it has desperately tried to define and acquire over the past several years.
