I have been working at Active Network full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Flexible hours and good ActiveX programs. Friendly colleagues (mostly). Very strong in its targeting market (though relatively thin in profit percentage)

    Cons

Merit increase is more flat out rather than per contribution. Glass ceilings for non HQ departments. Growing too fast resulting in steep management layers with execution and evaluation resistance.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Too many layers of management. To reduce cost, it should be from top down rather than bottom up.

Burnaby branch - low pay but excellent work-life balance

I have been working at Active Network full-time

    Pros

Great office space. Everyone gets a nice big private enough cubicle with high enough walls to minimize distraction. I hope they never adapt to this "open concept" cheap idea that other younger companies are doing. Very chill and relaxed work environment. Excellent work-life balance, great medical benefits with $750 for massages, dietitian, physio, etc., but stingy vacation/sick days. Three weeks vacation and NO sick days. You work from home if you're sick or you can take a vacation day. Oh and cheap parking compared to Vancouver.

    Cons

Salary is very low compared to other IT companies. Some management staff take advantage of the work from home flexibility and only show up at the office for a few hours a week and have no idea what's going on within the team.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You need to pay people more to retain talent.
