Unfocused company holding on until others start 'eating their lunch'

I worked at Active Network full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

    - Fairly relaxed environment without too much day-to-day stress.
    - Nice co-workers.
    - Design management is trying to create a culture of design.

    Cons

    - Acquired too many products for the sake of market share.
    - No cohesive product portfolio strategy. Every product — more or less — has something to do with registration but for different industries (e.g., church, team sports, etc.).
    - Employees seem to lack pride in their work.
    - Sub-par design and development talent — you will not be working with the best.
    - Reactive to competitors' products rather than trying to innovate and create unique value.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Cut the dead weight, focus on the RIGHT products and recruit better talent.

Was a great company until Monster took over.

I worked at Active Network full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Still a bunch of good worker-bees who try to carry on the culture that was in place prior to the Monster team coming in. Too bad they're on their way out.

    Cons

Sr. Management is completely disconnected from the rest of the company. They've turned innovators into cogs in a system. They're doing their best to destroy what was a great culture. You're one of the lucky ones if you get treated professionally, but expect to get treated like a little kid including name calling from senior management!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look around you! How motivated are people? How's morale? You're head is in the sand if you think things are fine.
