    I worked at Acxiom

    Pros

    Some great people and very well positioned given the explosion of data in the world. The opportunity to tackle some very interesting projects and work with some great clients.

    Cons

    The company is hopelessly confused about where it's going and what it wants to be. There is no vision or strategy and the company isn't investing in the new technology, products and skills that it needs for the digital marketing world. The sales force is very dominant and, with sales people driven purely by their own commission opportunities, the company often sells beyond its capabilities leading to disappointed clients and highly over-worked staff.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Get focused. Sell parts of the business that don't really fit. Makes the sales force work for the company, not the other way around. Find investment capital and use it.

    Mixed bag of great coworkers in an disorganized mess run by timid management.

    I have been working at Acxiom

    Pros

    Very fair regarding work-life balance issues.
    Fairly generous with permission to work remotely/at home.
    Some very good coworkers who realize that we're all in the same boat..
    Doesn't seem to have any bias regarding age of employees... lots of older, experienced folks.

    Cons

    Organizational structures, processes and procedures are a disorganized mess.
    Incredible amounts of duplication/redundancy among technical groups that support clients.
    Lack of consistent, coherent, well-documented business processes, and even less adherance to those that exist.
    Client-facing management often does not stick up for their employees/consultants.
    Hordes of managers that are barely technically literate, in a technology services company.
    No effort by management to streamline or improve processes. Most are made unnecessarily complicated.
    Lack of clear-cut growth paths or advancement opportunities.

    Net result: employees keeping their heads down and on the lookout for new opportunities elsewhere.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Mr. New CEO... Please, leave your handlers in their bubble, and hear what your employees have to say. They know what our clients need, as well as what the company and it's employees need as well to thrive. Too much effort, resources and money are wasted on inefficient processes and pet projects and products.
