Pros

Pay is resonable, decent vacation/ benefits package

Cons

The work environment at the corporate level is highly stressful. You are expected to stay late without much notice as though you don't have a life outside the building. They quote that they are a "family oriented" company which is purely a marketing ploy. New ideas for improvement are seldomly welcomed. They are set in their ways with little to no open mind to change. They tend to contain fires rather than extinguish them. Their operations remind me of water. Follow the path of least resistance. If you are a professional and one that believes in doing things the right way I would look else where. This is not a place for a career but rather a job. Something to get you by.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Slow down and stop trying to do everything all at once. Focus on your systems/ technology as they are horrible in comparison to competitors. Once you have your systems and operations locked down focus on your sales so that you can handle the business coming in the door with staff at hand. Currently you have no clue the staff it takes to run the business effectively while maintaining a healthy work environment. It is sad that you are so closed minded and blind. There are many talented and hard working individuals on your payroll that have lost their drive to do better. Any time an idea is brought up on how to improve a process it is shot down. Listen to your employees as they are the ones in the trenches and you all are lost in the clouds and have lost focus. It seems as if many bad decisions have been made and the company is trying to stay a float long enough to squeeze every penny out of it while they can. Your employees are an essential part of your success. Give them the time of day and do what you can to improve the stress level. Give them an incentive to work their hardest and you might be surprised what you get in return. It doesn't take much. Start with respect and acknowledgement and go from there.

I have been working at Addus Healthcare as a contractor (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Pay for home care aides is ( nominally) above minimum. Can work part time and flexible hours. Flexible clothing policy including scrubs or street wear. Payroll is accurate and on-time. Have electronic deposit.

    Cons

A downstate branch office has major issues with being reactive, not proactive. They go from one crisis to another and ignore or delay issues until the issue blows up. . Have even told clients "what we don't know won't hurt us" regarding major violations of policies.

Managers don't seem to have good time management or organizational skills, but rely on deceptive handling, maniuplation or rude, abrasive comments to staff to intimidate them and control them.

They don't seem to have the experience or knowlege to make judgements but rely on a small clique of union homemakers to tell them what to decide, or call another branch manager for mentoring which seems to help them to personally career build and network but not provide any better knowlege or ethics in their operational decisions.

Managers are very punitive towards clients or staff who "annoy" them by presenting issues they don't want to deal with or are co-opted on. They seem unable to string facts together to see a "large" picture. The are scared of losing clients even if the clients are in the wrong and will sell aides out rather than appropriately re-educating the client.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire independent outside auditors or quality assurance people with good experience and job qualifications (not just political or union-oriented) to survey clients and front line staff anonymously for feedback on downstate branch offices.

Send a every-six-months review form to aides for them to anonymously evaluate their branch director and office supervisors. Make downstate offices more accountable, and not just in their stats or pleasing, placating demeanor to Corporate officials.
