Hard to get new projects off the ground, but still a great place to work.

I have been working at Adobe

Pros

* great people -- lots of talented engineers
* great products -- mostly best-of-breed
* great customers -- creating tools for creative customers is fun
* great benefits -- totally solid

Cons

* hard to get new projects to live long enough to reach critical mass (but at least a failing project doesn't necessarily lead to layoffs, like it often used to)

Advice to ManagementAdvice

We should take more risks, letting more projects get a toe-hold. The brand is strong enough to handle more failures.

Company changed for the worse over the 10 years I worked there

    I worked at Adobe

    Pros

Benefits package was good. Pay average. Nice facilities. Gym. Vacation time was generous (although this has now changed based on conversations with current employees.

    Cons

Top leadership thought that the bottom line could be maintained/improved by cutting US jobs and sending them overseas. Lower to level employee benefits, stock options and profit sharing were lowered and are now gone except for very few and the higher levels of management. Top management communicated with their employees as though they were marketing to external customers. Senior management were reactive to new innovations rather than leading them. The only successful new product which Adobe developed in the 10 years I was there was In-Design, which was strongly advanced by John Warnock. Since that time the company just acquired new products and updated existing ones.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

None to existing management. The board needs to clean house of the top level managers and replace them with more innovative thinkers who share the vision of the founders in caring for their US employees.

I have been working at Adobe

    Pros

Good benefits, nice office location, great peers to work with, solid products

    Cons

No opportunity for career growth or promotions, innovation seems stalled, management is very risk adverse and initiatives to drive change are not support, duration of employee tenure is valued over new ideas or skills, extreme cost cutting measures over the last two years are begining to impact comapny performance

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to employees in all levels of the organization, bring in some employees with fresh skills and/or institute a job rotation program, encourage a tollerance of risk taking, reward new ideas, support change management initiatives with more than platitudes.
