Disapproves of CEO

Pros

You will write and edit a lot, which builds your skills.

Cons

Advance Publications on their newspaper side seem to be getting away from hiring full-time employees with good benefits and salaries to contractors and youngsters who make just barely $30K a year in the high cost New York metro area.

Advice to Management

You can't project quality if you don't have it inside.

    Pros

This is a great company to work for. Although it is a large corporation, it feels like each paper/magazine is more of a small family-owned business. Benefits are incredibly generous and they encourage you to go after the job you want, so job growth and professional development is really up to you.

    Cons

My main complaint about this company is it is not very efficient. They seem to do things in older, less efficient ways, just because that is the way it is always done. Not very innovative.

I have been working at Advance Publications full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Individual newspapers seem to be ran like independents (not owned by a huge corporation). Great Pay. Great Benefits. Love the people I work with. Very flexible. Lots of educational opportunities and training.

    Cons

Need to get digital and in print in line, right now they are two separate companies, producing very similar products but competing. Future of print product is questionable. Advance is testing digital products in a few cities. Looks like most other products will be going in that direction.
