Pros

Great employees, quiet environment, most positions encompass a variety of tasks. Management generally keeps everyone informed of new directions.

Cons

New directions and shifting goals are constant making it difficult to put out a high caliber product. Investment trust ownership makes for sacrificing quality for the bottom line and this leads to poor morale. Draconian views on lunch hour rules, lack of flex time when many positions do not require strict adherence to a certain schedule, and refusal to offer long-time professionals wanting to work there more than a beginner's vacation time even with a salary cut.

Advice to Management

Treat employees more like valuable resources and lighten up on the rules. A business shouldn't feel like a kindergarten.

    Pros

I worked on a variety of projects with some very smart people. They had some amazing editors that knew their specialties inside and out.

    Cons

Unfortunately they downsized and made some really bad editorial decisions and the quality of the publications when down.

    Advice to Management

Respect and listen to the employees that have been there for awhile and know their audience. Content is key not an after thought.

    Pros

great people and fun travel opportunities.

    Cons

horrible executive management. make their employees do the work of 3 people. too many layoffs. never listen to their employees because they are only interested in the bottom line. customer was rarely considered when making strategic decisions. 6 controllers in a 5 year period. no investment in people or technology. too much inviting between groups.

    Advice to Management

get off your high horses and think about people for a change. it's what your business is about. people love the work but they hate the mis-management.
