I worked at Advocate Health Care full-time (more than 5 years)

Pros

Compensation is competitive in Chicago.
Senior leadership, for the most part, invests in associates.
Training is outstanding, both clinically and in leadership/professional skills.
Promotes from within.
Company does a good job of implementing its "MVP" (core values).

Cons

Healthcare market in general is in constant flux.
Work/life balance can be very dependent on your supervisor. Some of those "rules" can be inconsistently applied.
Mission between each hospital can be inconsistent.

I have been working at Advocate Health Care full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

-Great medical, retirement, PTO, and education benefits
    -Good people to work with
-Salary is average for the industry
-Good opportunity for promotions from within

    Cons

-Middle managers not always the best people for their position. Promoted because of area knowledge and tenure, not necessarily management ability.
-There can be a lot of down time.
-People sleep at their desks; managers know and do nothing about it. Kills morale for those who actually come to work to be productive.
-No work from home policy for positions where it would be logical to do so.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

-Focus on process improvement and look for areas where positive adjustments can be made.
-If people are not doing their jobs or cannot do their job, get rid of them or find something else for them to do. This is only a poison to others in the department.
-It's 2013. Consider work from home policy for positions where it makes sense.

Surveys... What a joke! Why give them to employees if your not going to listen?

I have been working at Advocate Health Care

    Pros

    Health care costs, flex schedule

    Cons

Micro managment style, HR department is useless

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your employees. You don't even have to listen it should be obvious based on the number of people that leave the company.
