ACS has a really good thing going, if they don't squeeze it so hard into the shape of everybody else.

Pros

Talented people can advance. Not pushing a product, but really trying to help customer solve a problem. Senior execs take you under their wing and show you how to succeed. They're honest with you about what matters.

Cons

Short-term thinking, little investment in things that won't pay off for a year or two. Not too much recognition of life/work balance issues.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take a longer view of people - don't judge them quicky by this single great deal or this single lousy quarter. Customer really trust us because of genuine expertise in their world -- don't mess with that by making us look just like the competition with generic products and people.

    Pros

This is a smart, hungry company that is smart enough to have a diversified business plan to weather a tough economy. The company consists of smart, entrepreneurial people who are working hard to ensure that the company is successul for employees and stockholders.

    Cons

Becasue ACS has grown through acquisitions, it feels much like a startup.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Executive leadership has done a great job of guiding the company through some very tough times. While other companies are on the rocks, ACS continues to show that it is a strong performer.

    Pros

If you need a paycheck, and don't have a lot of skills, and don't want to work retail, this might be the job for you. If you can put up with customer abuse and incompetent management, you'll be an expert within 3 months. The standard to be great is really, really low at this company. If you show up 80% of the time and don't yell at the customers, you'll be a superstar.

    Cons

The management treats employees very callously, making it clear that you are a dollar sign to them, and not a person. The bonus system seems designed to prevent actual payout, and often as not you will lose money from your paycheck due to the arbitrary requirements and ratings from the call quality people. Each supervisor will have their own, usually conflicting guidelines for how you should do your job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat the call center employees like they are actual human beings. Have the software debugged once in a while. Make it possible to earn a bonus once in a while.
