Pros

The work was challenging and efforts made immediate and measurable impacts. Great opportunity to make a difference. Teams of resources were committed to the success of the company. Stable industry with strong and predictable annual earnings.

Cons

The Corporate Executive Management team was in the dark ages and had no idea how to lead, manage or make technology decisions in an outsourced environment. Management of the outsourced supplier was not effective because the IT team did not know how to manage deliverable based services and did not work to partner with the supplier. Rather, the IT leadership promoted a very antagonistic environment and finger pointing atmoshpere.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get some fresh blood and make some bold leadership changes. Get rid of all the insecure leaders and make sure that leadership courage is rewarded. Learn to operate as a single company, not seperate divisions.

    Pros

Great quality products to sell. Management is easy going and understanding of family/work balance. Great benefits. Car, cell, laptop, gas card.

    Cons

Travel is sometimes too extensive. Tech support in the field is literally non existent. Base salary is not very competitive.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management should really look at figuring out a way to get better communication between the technical support and the people in the field. Customers are lost everyday because the DM's cannot deliver answers to their problems.

I have been working at Affinia Group

    Pros

Positive Cash Flow, Dominant Market Share, Profitable Business, Successful business despite short term planning. Business has sufficient inertia to survive despite lack of true leadership. Executive leadership is a private equity firm - Cypress Group, which was formed by four members from Lehman Brothers. Market place is niche and very mature, so there isn't a big need to be dynamic and creative.

    Cons

Company is run as if it were still 1970 or 1980. Computer systems are out-dated and IT doesn't have a clue about managing in a modern, out-sourced environment. They are outsourced to HP, but don't have the experience and knowledge to be successful at it. Management is known to be micro-managers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start setting specific goals that are communicated to all employees. Get out from behind your desks in Ann Arbor and show your faces in Gastonia and McHenry on a regular basis. Go on the show undercover boss with the hopes of learning about all the employees in your company.
