I have been working at Aflac full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

The organization provides continuous training and a fair retirement scheme for those with 10 years of employment. This is typical of most insurance sales positions. They also empower individuals who want to be their own supervisors to accomplish this objective. Your success is directly linked to your performance.

Aflac is a great company. If you have determination, drive, the ability to sell ad infinitum, and the financial resources to support yourself for 6-12 months, you can do very well for yourself with this company.

    Cons

There is no salary. You are on your own with no income from day 1. It is sink or swim. There is also a tendency for managers to terminate employees who are achieving a higher than 40% closing ratio and then taking their accounts. This works well for both Aflac and the regional managers. Aflac is no longer required to pay commissions to these people, and future sales benefit those with a proven track record. Pay attention and not that Aflac is likely to have your contract terminated within 12 months as this prevents Aflac from having to pay you renewals.

If an agent has clients who have not paid, Aflac will collects the unpaid premiums from the agent. This continues whether or not the agent is still with Aflac. After 30 days, Aflac places the account with collections. It is a bad thing to be a less-than-stellar Aflac rep.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Although it is not a strong profit center for insurance companies, Aflac should make the HSA available to clients and employees. Aflac should also offer a 12 month salary of $24,000, plus bonuses and commissions, to new reps. After 12 months earnings should replace this salary, and for those whom it has not, terminate as you usually do. This will serve to make Regionals more selective in their hiring practices while allowing new agents to focus on hitting performance targets without wondering where the next meal will come from.
